General Impression

a small, sound, well balanced Irish Miniature possesses the correct conformation characteristics required of most breeds. Refinement and femininity in the mare, boldness and masculinity in the stallion. The general impression should be one of symmetry, strength, agility and alertness.

 

Size

The Irish Miniature should measure in either of the following categories,; up to 34" or not exceeding 38", when measured to the top of the whithers.

 

Head

The Irish Miniature must have a head that is in proportion to the length of its neck or body. Broad forehead with large prominent eyes, set wide apart. Comparatively short distance between the eyes and muzzle. Profile being straight or slightly concave below the eyes. Large nostrils on a clean, refined muzzle and a jaw with an even bite.

 

Ears

The Irish Miniature must have ears that are of medium size, carried alert with tips curving slightly inward.

 

Throat

Clean, well defined throat latch that allows ample flexion at the jaw.

 

Neck

Flexible, lengthy neck in proportion to the body and type and it should blend smoothly

 

Shoulders

Long, sloping and well angulated shoulders allowing a free swinging stride and alert head and neck carriage. The Forearm is to be well muscled and of good length

 

Body

Well muscled body,with ample bone and substance. It must be balanced and well proportioned. A short back and loins in relation to the length of the underline is required. A smooth and generally level top line with deep girth and flank and a trim barrel.

 

Hindquaters

Long and well muscled hip, thigh, and gaskin. Highest point of croup to be same height as the whithers. Tail set neither excessively high or low, but smoothly round off rump. (see above image)

 

Legs

Set straight and parallel when viewed from the front or back. Straight, true and squarely set, when viewed from the side with hooves pointing directly ahead. Pastern sloping about 45 degrees and blending smoothly, with no change of angle, from the hooves to the ground. Hooves to be round and compact, trimmed as short and practicable for an unshod horse or pony. Smooth, fluid gait in motion.

 

Colour

Any colour is acceptable

 

Mane and Tail

The hair should be lustrous and silky
